The PRCA is proud to present one of the Northwest's most anticipated rodeo events of 2025
When the spring air begins to warm the rolling hills of central Washington, rodeo fans know it's time for one of the region's most exciting events to thunder into town. The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association is proud to present the Advantage Dirt Bares and Broncs Rodeo, returning to Ellensburg, Washington on May 16-17, 2025 at the storied Kittitas Valley Event Center.
The Advantage Dirt Bares and Broncs isn't just another stop on the circuit—it's a showcase of the finest talent in professional rodeo and a celebration of the Western way of life that continues to thrive in communities like Ellensburg. As a PRCA-sanctioned event with a substantial $30,000 purse, this rodeo attracts top competitors from across the Columbia River Circuit and beyond, all vying for crucial points in their quest for circuit finals and national standings.
"This event embodies everything we love about rodeo in the Northwest," says Columbia River Circuit Director. "The combination of world-class competition, community spirit, and the rich heritage of Ellensburg makes this a can't-miss weekend for rodeo fans."
The Advantage Dirt Bares and Broncs puts the spotlight squarely on two of rodeo's most technically demanding and visually spectacular events: bareback and saddle bronc riding. These classic events test the very essence of what makes rodeo special—the partnership between athlete and animal in a dance of controlled chaos.
Bareback riding opens each performance with an explosion of energy that sets the tone for the entire show. Competitors grip nothing but a simple rigging as they match their timing and strength against horses specifically bred for their athletic bucking ability. Judges score both rider and horse on their performance, with points awarded for control, spurring technique, and the degree of difficulty presented by the horse.
Watch for local favorite Jake Springer, who's been climbing the circuit standings with his distinctive spurring style and iron grip. After a breakthrough season last year, Springer has his sights set on making a statement at Ellensburg.
Often called rodeo's "classic" event, saddle bronc riding evolved directly from the task of breaking wild horses for ranch work. The event requires a perfect combination of strength, style, rhythm, and grace. Riders must begin with their feet over the bronc's shoulders and synchronize their spurring motion with the horse's bucking action.
The Martinez brothers from nearby Yakima have been making waves in the saddle bronc world and will be looking to capitalize on their home-circuit advantage. Their fluid style and deep family roots in the sport make them crowd favorites whenever they compete in Washington.
While bareback and saddle bronc riding take center stage, the Advantage Dirt Bares and Broncs offers a full slate of rodeo action. Bull riding brings the crowd to its feet as cowboys attempt to conquer 2,000 pounds of twisting, turning bovine athlete. The timed events—team roping, tie-down roping, and steer wrestling—showcase the practical skills that working cowboys have relied on for generations.
For the women competitors, barrel racing delivers high-speed precision as horse and rider navigate a cloverleaf pattern around three barrels, often separated by mere hundredths of a second on the leaderboard.
The Advantage Dirt Bares and Broncs is designed as a complete family entertainment experience. Between competitive events, PRCA bullfighters—often mistakenly called rodeo clowns—demonstrate their incredible athleticism and courage as they protect fallen riders from charging bulls. Their acts combine life-saving bravery with crowd-pleasing comedy.
The rodeo will feature professional rodeo announcer Casey Ryan, whose knowledge of the sport and competitors brings depth to the spectator experience, explaining the nuances of each event while keeping the energy high throughout the performances.
Local musical talent will perform before and after each day's competition, with a Saturday night concert included in the price of admission. Food vendors representing the best of Northwest cuisine will be on hand, from classic barbecue to regional specialties.
The PRCA is particularly proud of how the Advantage Dirt Bares and Broncs benefits the Ellensburg community. Beyond the direct economic impact of bringing thousands of visitors to local hotels, restaurants, and businesses, the event partners with several local charities.
A portion of each ticket sold goes directly to the Kittitas County 4-H and FFA programs, supporting the next generation of agricultural leaders. Additionally, the "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" night on Saturday raises funds and awareness for breast cancer research and treatment.
Local businesses play a crucial role in making the event possible. From stock contractors to concessionaires, the rodeo creates a showcase for regional enterprises while providing entertainment for visitors from across the Northwest and beyond.
Mark your calendars: Tickets go on sale March 16, 2025, right here on this website!
The PRCA and event organizers have created a range of ticketing options to make this premier rodeo accessible to all fans:
The Kittitas Valley Event Center offers excellent sightlines throughout the arena, but the most popular sections typically sell out quickly. PRCA members receive a special pre-sale opportunity beginning March 9, 2025.
When purchasing tickets, fans should be aware that the only authorized sales channels are the official website (www.baresandbroncs.com), the Kittitas Valley Event Center box office, and select local retailers to be announced. The PRCA warns against purchasing from unauthorized third-party resellers, where tickets may be counterfeit or marked up to excessive prices.
The Kittitas Valley Event Center is located at 901 E 7th Ave, Ellensburg, WA 98926, just minutes from Interstate 90. Ample parking is available on-site for $10 per vehicle, with free shuttle service from designated downtown locations and Central Washington University.
For those traveling from out of town, Ellensburg offers a range of accommodation options from national hotel chains to charming bed and breakfasts. The PRCA recommends booking early, as rooms fill quickly during rodeo weekend.
The safety of competitors, livestock, and fans remains the top priority at all PRCA events. The Advantage Dirt Bares and Broncs will feature on-site emergency medical services, and the arena is equipped with modern safety features for both human and animal athletes.
The Kittitas Valley Event Center is fully accessible, with designated seating areas for guests with mobility challenges. Service animals are welcome, and assistive listening devices are available upon request.
As one of the newer additions to the PRCA calendar in the Columbia River Circuit, the Advantage Dirt Bares and Broncs is quickly establishing itself as a must-attend event for rodeo enthusiasts. The combination of top-tier competition, family entertainment, and community spirit creates an atmosphere that captures the very best of what the PRCA represents.
"We're particularly excited about this year's event," notes the rodeo committee chairman. "With the increased purse and the quality of stock we've secured, fans can expect to see some of the most competitive rides of the season."
Whether you're a lifelong rodeo fan or experiencing the thrill of professional rodeo for the first time, the Advantage Dirt Bares and Broncs promises a weekend of unforgettable Western action. From the moment the first bareback rider bursts from the chute until the final bull rider's dismount, you'll be treated to the unique combination of athletic excellence, Western heritage, and family entertainment that only a PRCA rodeo can deliver.
