Evergreen Showdown: The Pacific Northwest's Premier Rodeo Experience

PRCA-sanctioned event returns to Monroe, Washington for two action-packed days of world-class competition

When the crisp March air meets the scent of fresh sawdust at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds, rodeo fans know it's time for one of the Columbia River Circuit's most anticipated early-season events. The PRCA is proud to present the 2025 Evergreen Showdown, returning to Monroe, Washington on March 7-8, 2025, for what promises to be an unforgettable weekend of top-tier rodeo competition and western entertainment.

A Tradition of Excellence in the Pacific Northwest

The Evergreen Showdown has established itself as a cornerstone event in the PRCA's Columbia River Circuit, drawing competitors from across the region and beyond. Produced by the renowned Aces Wild Pro Rodeo, this PRCA-sanctioned event delivers the perfect blend of professional competition and family entertainment that rodeo fans have come to expect.

"What makes the Evergreen Showdown special is the unique energy between our contestants and the Monroe crowd," says Steve Kenyon, the event's veteran announcer who returns for 2025. "There's something about this early spring rodeo that brings out the best in everyone—both in the arena and in the stands."

Last year's Showdown saw over $40,000 in prize money distributed across seven traditional events, with standout performances that set the bar high for 2025. Jordan Tye claimed the all-around cowboy title with impressive showings in both tie-down roping and team roping, while Caleb McMillan thrilled the crowd with an electrifying 85-point ride on Aces Wild Pro Rodeo's "Darlington Motel" to take the bull riding championship.

World-Class Competition Comes to Monroe

The 2025 Evergreen Showdown will feature a full slate of PRCA-sanctioned events, including:

Roughstock Events:

  • Bareback Riding: Watch as cowboys battle the explosive power of Aces Wild Pro Rodeo's top bareback horses, including fan favorites "Dealer" and "Looking Glass"
  • Saddle Bronc Riding: The classic event of rodeo returns with riders attempting to master the rhythmic bucking of horses like "Hawkins," which carried Jake Clark to an 82.5-point ride and the championship in 2024
  • Bull Riding: The most dangerous eight seconds in sports closes each performance, as cowboys face off against the rankest bulls in the Pacific Northwest

Timed Events:

  • Steer Wrestling: The ultimate test of strength and timing as cowboys leap from horseback to wrestle a steer to the ground
  • Team Roping: Precision teamwork on display as headers and heelers work together to rope a steer in the fastest time possible
  • Tie-Down Roping: A showcase of horsemanship and roping skill as cowboys race against the clock
  • Women's Barrel Racing: The fastest event in rodeo features the sport's top cowgirls navigating a cloverleaf pattern at breakneck speeds

More Than Just Competition

While the rodeo action takes center stage, the Evergreen Showdown offers a complete western experience for fans of all ages. The event kicks off each day with a pre-show featuring local talent and western heritage demonstrations. Throughout the performances, fans will enjoy the comedic antics of barrelman Denny Halstead and the skilled protection work of bullfighters Cheyne Anderson and J.W. Merriott.

Between events, attendees can explore the concourse featuring western apparel vendors, custom leatherwork, and authentic cowboy gear. Food options range from classic fairground favorites to regional specialties, ensuring no one goes hungry while enjoying the action.

Families with young children will appreciate the kid-friendly activities available throughout the venue, including face painting, mechanical bull rides adjusted for younger riders, and photo opportunities with rodeo personalities.

The Competitors

The Evergreen Showdown attracts top talent from across the PRCA, with particular emphasis on Columbia River Circuit competitors looking to gain valuable points early in the season. Fans can expect to see returning champions defending their titles alongside hungry newcomers looking to make their mark.

In the roughstock events, all eyes will be on Caleb McMillan, who not only dominated in bull riding last year but also competed in steer wrestling, showcasing the versatility that defines rodeo's greatest athletes. The bareback riding competition promises to be fierce, with Dylan Riggins and Clay Stone both returning after sharing the championship in 2024.

The timed events will feature precision and speed, with Jordan Tye and Jason Minor looking to defend their team roping title against a field of determined challengers. In barrel racing, Julia Johnson returns to defend her championship against a deep field of talented cowgirls, including Jeannette Etchebarne and Karen Gleason, who finished within two-tenths of a second of the winning time last year.

The Stock

No rodeo is complete without mentioning the other athletes in the arena – the livestock. Aces Wild Pro Rodeo returns as the primary stock contractor, bringing their outstanding pen of bucking horses and bulls that have earned a reputation for consistent performance and spectacular action.

Bulls like "Darlington Motel," which carried Caleb McMillan to an 85-point championship ride last year, represent the quality of stock fans can expect. In the saddle bronc riding, "Hawkins" returns after helping Jake Clark secure the 2024 title with an 82.5-point ride that brought the crowd to their feet.

The timed event cattle are carefully selected to provide a fair and competitive challenge for contestants, ensuring the skills of the cowboys and cowgirls remain the deciding factor in these precision events.
